Lumineux

Gustavo Estrada

Canadian-Guatemalan / Studio Jeweller

Feeling a little lost my head and in my personal space, I had never been without a Schedule most of my adult life, no class to prepare, no deadlines and too many people at once in our small apartment I needed to escape to my place of comfort. My studio is my favourite hiding place but the first week of the confinement was the hardest I was numb and to clear my head I started to clean the storage space after cleaning and making a pile of things to send to the garbage I actually pick up more discarded metal pieces in the recycling container in the industrial building were the studio is.

That is what started “lumineux” this chandelier that occurred my head and keep my from going crazy it made out of 98 crystals that I salvaged from the renovation of the Sheraton hotel in Montreal about 10 years ago it is about six feet long and three feet wide and it weighs about 200 pounds.

I will forever have the image of this beautiful project in my mind and in my heart because it gives me the chance to spend physical and mental energy. Thanks to this project my mind was no longer confirmed because I had a purpose even though for some people this object has no practical use to me it is beautiful.

Thanks for allowing me to share this with you.
